Default min. time for an oil cold check

I usually leave the bike sit over night to check in the morning, but if I am on a hurry or whatever, what's the minimum amount of time letting the bike sit, to perform an oil cold check to get an accurate reading?

    thanks!

you answered your own question. Most accurate would be 1st thing after letting it sit overnight. Thats how you know that all your oil is sitting in the pan

About 5 minutes. 15 might be better.

Do you thread back in or not? Wipe off then reinsert and check?

For the cold check you thread it back in, just like it was if you checked it first thing in the morning. For the 15/3 hot check you just set it back in the hole but don't thread it in.

I do the cold check after it sits over night. Never really tried it at less time than that, but it would be easy to find out how long is good, just check it after a couple hours or a few minutes and see what it shows compared to that morning.

Whether you screw it in or not I don't think it's that critical. If I check mine without screwing it in, the level is usually right in the middle of the hash marked area....if I screw it in, it's at the top of that area...
