Man Im just trying to be like you a top dog, after the air ride this week I'm done for the mods til winter, I have a few more things to do in the winter

I have a new Brakeaway coming - probably be here tonight I think. How big a pain in the a$$ is it to put this thing on. I am an average household mechanic. Change oil, install Gman bushing, minor repairs, that type of thing. After reading some of the comments on here it appears that getting the thing on is NBD but getting it adjusted properly is a big deal. I have a short patience span for some things and am wondering whether I'll have to take it to my local mechanic (he's cool!) to have it put on.![]()
Mine are stock grips - I'll let you know how it goes on my C109RT.
Yea, not sure about the C109 but in general, getting it together and over the bar ends with stock grips is easy as pie. Adjusting it can be a pain but just read the instructions good and you will get it fairly easy. If you get frustrated, walk away and watch some tv and come back.![]()
Thanks, I'll do that. I have a bra on but it wouldn't be long before it scratched thru.
Moe you say that now but I know you will be buying something before the summer is out...lmao!![]()

My new Brakeaway works well but it's a lot of adjusting. Half an hour to put it in 1.5 to adjust it.
One of the best mods for the bike.
Some rides are sweeter than others, but a 9's not bad.
I added a Throttle Meister. The 109 handle bars are solid, so it had to be drilled out. It looks stock, and works great. I would have my right arm go to sleep- A must mod for me that has worked beautifully.

Custom painted grey with yellow stripe, engine guards, Longhorn pegs, Kuryakyn floorboards, debadged, debaffled, Throttle Meister, Irate mesh grill, Spudwrench Fairing. Custom made inner fairing with iPhone holder/charger and RockBox radio head unit and built in speakers. Corbin bags, 160 front / 260 rear, Dynabeads, 3" risers with SS 3+ cables, Stebel Horn, HID light. Trackday TRE and Corbin seats with Custom World driver backrest.
I just got mine today. Im having problems though. its about 1/4 inch too short for reaching my brake lever bolt. I've adjusted everything and finally got it to fit but now its binding. So much so that it won't let the throttle recoil. When I remove it from the brake bolt it moves freely!?!
Its installed on my 07 M109R over my Kuryakyn grips. Any suggestions??
I may have to get a longer adjustment screw with a spacer??
Sounds like you need to add more spacer in there. The fact that your torqueing the whole setup when tightening the nut/bolt is the problem. Make sure you have the correct spacer size in there and that it is right against the mounting location so that when you tighten the bolt it is not pulling anything together, if that makes sense.
If you have the brakeaway on and the aluminum block, that is all you need if you are using iso grips and stock levers. You don't need any additional hardware. It is a pain and just takes time. I found that if you leave the small allen screws that lock the brakeaway down to the rubber, loose, it is the best. Leave them loose and then get everything aligned up. If you are off 1/16th of an inche it will bind. if you need to, you can square off the brakeaway to stop it binding and then tighten those screws down and put the cover on.
Normaly I would agree with you Big P, that's the way I have mine set but I have been reading a few members on here having this same problem and they state that the spacer provided (aluminium block) was just not wide enough which makes me think that they just didn't have their grip completely seated in which case the easiest fix was to increase the spacer a hair.
BP is right. It has to be in perfect parallel or it will bind. They are tedius to adjust and have to be just so to work correctly.
Then they have something installed/adjusted incorrectly. ISO grips/stock levers, block only. Once I changed the levers to customs, I have to add a shim to the existing block.
IT'S NOT ABOUT HOW FAST YOU GET THERE, IT'S ABOUT THE RIDE ITSELF. TAKE YOUR TIME AND ENJOY IT!!
I agree completely with you Big B and I recommend the increase spacer size as a quick fix since they seems to be happy with the way everything else is setup. You can say this is just like the shim you used to get yours right with this setup, sometimes its easier to just add alittle extra!
I have the breakaway /w iso grips I have had it several years and it's hard to remember the set up but I used what came with the unit with out having to add any thing .
