Exclamation ***Exhaust clip - Cobra Swepts w/ modified baffles.***

Finally got around to doing this. (Harris, this is what we need to do for your pipes, video)

The baffle modification was copied from sorge109
Here is what I did w/ the baffles.
As far as the baffles go, you can def put them on a belt sander so they will slide right in. That's what I did. Don't need to spend the money on the Monsters. Oh and the pipes are much louder then the video lets on.
Here is what the stock baffles look like before cutting

Cut the closed end of the baffles off so they look like this

Next, take a hole saw, 1.5" and cut out the baffles so they are straight through

Then, get some fiberglass wrap, I bought this from Napa

Get some aluminum window screen and wrap the baffle, this will keep the cloth from being sucked through the holes. I used safety wire to secure the screen.

Cut a strip the same width as the baffle and wrap them so the cloth is as thick as the outer diameter of the baffle. I again used safety wire to secure the packing

Then they are ready to go back in the pipes. Keep in mind the baffles are pipe specific. Because of the arch, they are slightly different and not interchangeable.

I also ran the contact areas of the baffles where they seat in the pipes on a belts sander and took some metal down so they would slide in and out of the pipe w/o any trouble.

I ran my Swepts for a year and a half w/o baffles before doing this mod. It's still plenty loud, but had a deeper, nicer tone. Sounds great!!!

Great idea, looks good, it will be interesting how long the aluminum screen and fiberglass cloth last. I installed 1250 degree pipe insulation around my baffle, it lasted 2 weeks and was gone, keep us posted.

Uh, sorry B, it's just the opposite. Look a little more closely. The bike rises when on the gas and squats between shifts. It's called "shaft jacking" and is common with driveshaft bikes and is caused by the pinion gear climbing the ring gear.

Will do, working OT this weekend and w/ the heat, no idea what I'll be doing in my off time. Probably sleeping and staying cool.

If Big B did it with simular materials ( it looks like he did ) as I did , I am on 2 years now and havent had to repack. The design of the baffle doesn't put alot of stress/or direct flow to the cloth. if you look at his pic there is a dead space between rings that the baffle breaths into, this is where the packing is.

I did something similar to my Swepts right after getting them. I didn't remove the front, just the center disc. Then I used screen wire and regular baffle wrap on them.

No problem bro, just remember the baffles are location specific. So if you take them out, mark them.

Dumb question time? you mean mark the inside of the pipe for placement right?

LOL no mark the baffle itself as to if it came out of the upper or lower pipe.

And have fun getting the suckers back in so they line up with the hole in the outer pipe too. That's why it's important to sand them so they fit, because you'll need to twist them some once they are in there.

I never noticed mine were different top to bottom, maybe I got lucky the 2 or 3 times I've had them out.

Exactly! Yeah, you must have been lucky Mike, cuz they are def slightly a different arc. If you look hard enough, you can figure out which goes where, cuz I didn't mark them when I took them out.

You know, maybe I did keep them layed out so I knew which pipe they went in to. I'm kind of anal about doing things like that, I like putting nuts back on the same bolts they came off of, putting bolts back in in the same order I took them out, etc. Just never had a good reason not to.

But I also bought a used pair for mine to modify, so maybe I just got lucky on those. I remember having to put them in a couple of times to get them to line up with the mounting hole, because they tend to rotate a little as they go in.

Do you think it would still work OK just modding the baffles by cutting them and not wrapping them?

the wrap is what makes the deeper sound. you can try it, see how it works. doing the wrap is easy.

Might have been camera position cuz the first one was w/ the modified baffles. I used my GoPro for the first one and the second was w/ my phone
