Well last night I borrowed my brother-in-laws FJR and took it for a spin. I won't bother reviewing that as most of you wouldn't care. But I did want to be able to compare my final two choices which is why I rode it.
So this afternoon I headed down to the dealer and asked to take the M109R for a spin. They let me. Now, I've never riden a cruiser at ALL. The closest I've come is the Triumph Bonneville that I rode for a few weeks while my Speed Four was being worked on. Well, here are my thoughts:
I'm getting this bike. Ok, so I thought more than JUST that...
This bike is awesome. Ok, seriously now...
It has the acceleration I need. What I loved about it was that it's much more consistent over the entire power band, opposed to my sport bike where you had to really wind it up to get the power down. I was really REALLY worried it wouldn't be enough for me, but I think it's JUST right. I can say I wouldn't like any less and would certainly love more, but it's adequate and very satisfying.
Still unknown is cornering. I didn't want to really push the bike to its' limits since I'm unexperienced on cruisers. What I do know is that it seemed to do pretty well for what I was expecting, and it was obvious there was more room I could've used once I get more experience under me.
There's so much else I could go on about, but I was very satisfied overall with the bike and spent the rest of the evening compiling a list of my "must have" accessories and am working on prioritizing them now. I just need to figure out if I want the Orange or the Yellow/White one now. The limited edition is located closer to me by about 500 miles than the Orange (at least with the deal I'm working on), but I could save about $600 and get the Orange color I REALLY want if I'm willing to travel... So I gotta weigh all that now and see. I really like the Orange the best, but also like the clear signals/brake light that the limited has, so I need to see how much those accessories cost too.
If everything goes well, I'll be buying the bike tomorrow and flying out in a few weeks to pick it up. I'm excited to meet some of you and see what you've done to your M109's, and will also be asking for advise on traveling on the M109 since my inaugural trip will be 1,300-1,500 miles... Yikes. It will be worth it though (and lots of fun).
Thanks again for all your help in this process. The M109 isn't a Hayabusa, but it still puts a grin on my face more than any other can, and is wife approved too!
