Fellow Colorado 9er's...

I am planning a ride in June that would take me from Seattle to Denver and back. A couple of Harley buddies and I are looking to get out and stretch our legs. The gameplan is to have a couple of days to do some local riding before we head back. So, I have a couple of questions....

First... our preliminary route is bringing us into Colorado from Salt Lake on 40. On a map is looks like a good ride and gets us off the major highways. Is this a good route?

Second... Any recommendations on local riding would be greatly appreciated. We are planning on staying in the Evergreen area while we are there.

Third... Crap I can't remember what 3 was.... oh well i will remember right after I hit post....

Thanks for your time and look forward to the input. We are still working on the dates, but looks to be the week of June 2nd, and probably be doing the local riding the 3rd and 4th. I will keep you posted and you are welcome to join if anyone is interested.

Thanks!
Chaun

:welcome: PackerBacker, and yes, hwy 40 is a pretty ride, over Rabbit Ears pass, Steamboat, Berthoud pass, and if you're feelin' adventurous, at Grandby turn left onto hwy34 to ride the highest continuous road in the U.S., through Rocky Mtn National Park, to Estes,(if it's open for the season), it's high and it's cold. If you go this way, Grand Lake is a good overnight, biker friendly town, good food. Otherwise 40 will put you on I-70 for just a little ways, then catch hwy 6, (canyon), into Denver. The stretch you will bypass of I-70 is Mt. Vernon canyon, and a bunch of idiots, and trucks ( I really hate that stretch). Once in Denver, my all time favorite is the Peak to Peak hwy, #'s 119 to 72 to 7, from Idaho Springs to Estes, lots of twistys, beautiful views, and tons of other canyons tie into it going east, just avoid Boulder canyon, them folks are dangerous idiots. Favorite bike stop for lunch just south of Nederland ( Ned ), is the Sundance Lodge Cafe, it's on Google Earth. Ride hard, and ride safe. .........RRH
ps: after thoughts; early June may not be a good time to ride Trail Ridge, hwy34, I usually ride it Aug/Sept.

I live in Evergreen, so I can provide info about the area, roads, etc. A Quality Inn Motel is at the Evergreen Parkway and I-70 exit. it has pretty nice accomodations, moderately priced, swimming pool. There are B&Bs also. Evergreen would provide easy access to the mountains or to Denver. Evergreen has the infamous Little Bar bar where live music plays through the weekend, and it welcomes bikes. Great place!

Give me an e-mail if you want more info.
