Directions for the Chicken Fried Steak Run - Lake Ridge, VA to Brookside Restaurant outside of Luray, VA

.........so then, let's head WEST!!!! :D

Did ya get my email 'bout the route we took last time?

Yep, here ya go... so I don't have to repost... the basic route from my house is:

Rt. 3000 West (Prince William Parkway).

Left on Rt. 642 West (Hoadly Road).

Left on Rt. 234 South (Dumfries Road).

Right on Rt. 619 North (Bristow Road, changes name to Linton Hall Road when you cross Rt. 28). Note that the final section of Rt. 619 from Bristow to Gainesville is becoming so painfully over-populated that we'll be changing this part of the route by spring '08.

When Rt. 619 ends at stop sign, merge pseudo-left on Rt. 55 West (John Marshall Highway/Washington Street in Gainesville, VA). Go through the town of Marshall and don't miss the 90 degree left turn continuing on Rt. 55/Free State Road.

Go over I-66 and take a right on Rt. 647 (Crest Hill Road). This is a very hilly road. Be on the lookout for slow-moving farm vehicles, stray livestock and 24/7 drunkards. Also be aware of single-lane bridges, many of which are unmarked.

Rt. 647 ends at Rt. 522 in Flint Hill. Turn left on Rt. 522 South.

Right on Rt. 211 West.

Serious twisties start in 6-7 miles on Rt. 211. Consider the need for fuel or bio-break now, there's a Shell station 2 miles up on the right-hand side with fresh high-test, clean facilities, cellular service and an ATM. Don't take too long or your tires will get cold.

Continue on Rt. 211 through Sperryville and Thornton Gap over the Blue Ridge Parkway/Skyline Drive. Drag pegs along the way and scare yourself silly on the decreasing radius turns.

When you get to the bottom of the mountain (West side), look for the "Leaving Shenandoah National Park" sign on the right. The road will subsequently turn into a divided highway with a posted 55MPH speed limit. Look left through the trees at the crossover roads. You'll be turning left at the 2nd or 3rd crossover road into the Brookside Restaurant parking lot. If you hit the town of Luray, VA, you've gone 4 miles too far.

The Brookside staff loves bikers and treats us very well. Please be respectful and don't announce your presence with your exhaust. ::) Park in the lot to the left as you're facing the restaurant. Leave the spaces to the right for the cabin renters. Leave the spaces directly in front for the local geriatrics (give 'em respect man). Watch out for oil and antifreeze slicks. Many vehicles pull into the lot as they've overheated making it over the mountains. Watch out for dog poop if you venture into the woods or grassy areas. Tourists let their dogs out here and don't clean up. :-\ Check out the peac0cks in the fenced-in gazebo located in the left corner of the lot. If you don't see peac0cks, check your 6! :o LOL! :D

Maybe we can do a Polar Bear ride this weekend? :dontknow: We'll have to watch out for ice in the shady spots in the mountains. It'll definitely be brrrrrrrrrrrr chilly willy too. I'm game, but won't know until late Friday though.
