View Full Version : You mean I won't be the first one in Utah? That sucks.

Only kidding. But one thing that did draw me to the M109 is that I haven't seen one on the road yet. I'm in Utah County BTW.

So, I'm getting ready to pop for the bike and have a question about dealers in the area. Anybody have an absolute favorite or an absolute watch-out for the few Suzuki Boulevard dealers in Central/Northern Utah? I've looked at the bike at The Edge in Draper and am happy with the treatment so far. Of course, I've been dealing with sales and that's honestly the least important part of the whole deal. Service department looks decent at first glance but too often you don't find out about the lipstick on the pig until after you kiss it. They are the closest dealer to me though, so all things being equal...

Thanks for any input.

Jay

Thanks Mudslinger. The Edge has a Black for $11,700 and they're a lot closer to me. I'm leaning toward ordering the Red but can't quite decide.

It's prolly a silly question anyway. The choices in dealers are turning out to be more limited than I expected so, in the end, I'll go for convenience and hope it works out.

I bought mine from the Edge and was very happy in how I was treated. All in all they have given me a very positive impression. One time I called escape to schedule a service to fix the coolant leak, they said they could fit me in 14 days later. The edge got me in that day.

P.s. I am in provo. Where do you live? We should meet up and go ride. Good luck in your acquisition.

Mudslinger - I'm with you. The Red's calling me. It's gonna be tough though when I'm going to the dealer today and the sky is blue outside. Gotta stay strong, right?

Fatty - Thanks for the words on The Edge. Helps the comfort level to have someone who's used them. When I checked with Escape the other day it turns out they don't even sell the cruisers (or maybe they said they didn't stock them, something like that). Haven't had the best experience with them on dirt bikes either so...

I'm in PG. I'll let you know when I get the bike and maybe we can hook up for a first ride over the loop. I have a couple of friends who are getting ready to buy too. They're set on HDs but I'm taking them up to look at the 109 today. I'll either convert them or they'll fall behind. :D

isn't that the truth. Hey, if they do end up getting harleys, at least you will always have someone admiring that nice rear tire. Most likely, once they see the 109 they will be hooked...especially if they ride it.

Congrats again on your wise decision

Can't believe it. Took the guys to see, and test drive a 9 today. The dealer had sold the Black one but had just pulled a white one out of the crate. They loved it. Couldn't believe the power, liked the looks, all that. But they're still stuck on buying Harley's so I said fine, let's go see the bikes you're buying.

We went to the HD dealer and they pulled me over to a couple of Dyna Street Bobs. I'd read about, but never seen a Bobber before and I gotta be honest, my first reaction was "What the :edit: ?" (Remember, we were there only 30 minutes after riding the 9 and the two bikes are a pretty stark contrast).

Different strokes for different folks I guess. I mean, the classic, naked look is great and it's a pretty fun bike but it just seemed well, little, in every way, after the M109. If I had the green for a fleet of bikes I'd probably put a Bobber in there, but I can't see it as an only bike since it's pretty much a one trick pony. Oh well. We all have our preferences but, at the end of the day, two down is the important part.

As for me, just had a talk with the wife and she's surprisingly with me on this one. Should put the deposit in on the 9 by the end of the week.

Cheers,

Jay

BTW - I just realized I called a metric cruiser with Harley's new 92 cubic inch engine "little." That speaks volumes about the 9 I think.

Ok, sorry I didn't see this thread sooner. I shopped around a LOT before buying mine. Went to the dealer in Provo and wasn't impressed. I had to go drag the sales guy away from his desk to get him to talk to me (after several minutes standing at the bike).
One guy mentioned the dealership in Salt Lake. They live off their name. They say they will "match" a price...but why not give the best price in the first place? I would prefer to go to a dealership that will be straightforward no matter if I received other prices or not. If you haven't been to other dealerships, Honda Suzuki of S.L. will not budge from MSRP. Just avoid them. See other thread on this board from last summer and you will see more.
The Edge in Draper seems to be a great place. I have been in there a few times, but didn't end up buying there as they didn't have the red in stock, and they were just coming out of the hassle caused by the lawsuit from Honda / Suzuki of S.L.
I ended up going to the dealership in Layton and I was quite impressed. They gave a good price, matched the extended warranty price from Oneida Suzuki, and they uncrated the red one in their back lot for me. Oh, and I think they might even still have a blue '06 on their floor that you might get a screaming deal on. I was very tempted to buy that color, but went with the red and never looked back.
If you end up going through that dealership in Layton, let me know. They might give something off for a referral. Doesn't hurt to try.

I just checked in at the Edge in draper. They have a white one in stock that you could get for around 12000, they could do black for 11,700 and they have a LE coming in with no deposit on it.

you could probably haggle them down a little bit from there.

Talk to Jody. his number is

I have heard about those back seat mods. My problem is I can never get them to stay put. after a couple months they just require too much maintenance and I get rid of them. I guess I just haven't found the right model yet. Let me know if you guys find a good shop were I can pick one up.

I don't mean to burst any bubbles but I too live in Utah County. I just got my black 109. Pretty stock. Added Green LED accent lights all over, a 2-into-one sideburner pipe and front spike dress-up caps. Awesome bike. My first street bike! Finally a metric bike that looks good! :D

In case anyone is interested, I went to several dealers and ended up having Carbon/Emery Honda (in Price) order mine. Was there in three days and one more for the pipe install. They had been referred to me by several of my friends who have bought severl bikes from them (and who all live in utah county). My friends swear by their service and personal service personel. It was a great experience. I was there today after finishing work (as I go there two to three times a month). Try them if you want. I would again for sure. Rumors in Utah and SL counties are that sure, anyone will sell you a bike but few want to serve you there after in any fashion. Good luck though! I'm having a blast with mine.

fyi, the service & warranty dept down here in saint george are really great to work with. the sales people i have a different opinion of.
anyway, heres a little fun story....the dealer washed the bike and left it to dry (drip dry style)...anyway needless to say they tried to repare the etched clearcoat but ended up replacing every black painted part on the bike (except the rear fender) without hesitation....i didn't even need to raise my voice or anything :dontknow:....(i was completely taken off guard, and amazed)

Whoa, gone a few days without a computer and there have really been a lot of responses. Thanks for all the info.

Gaspass, I've heard good things about the dealer in Price too but it just seems like a long haul when I need service. I'm within 15 minutes of The Edge and I've been pretty comfortable with them so far. You can bet you guys will be hearing about it if that changes. :D

Fatty, Jody is who I've been talking to there. I like his style, no pressure. When the wife asked me to wait a couple of days before ordering he actually agreed. Said it was a good idea to cool off a little and make sure I really liked the bike. That's pretty unusual in a sales guy. The white was the bike they let my friends test drive. They had uncrated it that morning. The guys actually liked the color and tried to talk me in to driving off with that one. At the time I had my heart set on the red but, on reflection, I've decided I'm not going to get hung up on the color (except I don't want white). I'm ordering the black and using the $500 toward mods/accessories. Gotta change the seats and probably do some risers too right off the bat. And I'm planning a long ride in June so I'm going to pick of the Rifle windshield and I have to think about luggage and where to put it. That'll probably eat up the budget for a while and I need to ride the bike some anyway to decide what else I need to do.

Anyway, the "cooling off" period should be almost done. Hope to join you guys out there soon.

Jay

If I remember right, Jody is the sales manager there, and a good guy to talk to. Wish they had the red bike in when I was ready, I would have bought from them. Couldn't wait for them to get the red in (didn't have any color in stock at the time). They had no idea when they might get any in, so I went to another dealership.

I would still suggest checking on the dealership in Layton to see what they have in stock. They are also really good to deal with and you might not have to wait to order your bike in. They should match any price you have been told. They will also match the extended warranty from oneida suzuki online.

Either way, hope to see you on the road.

Jay,

sounds like you are about to take the plunge. Congrats!! Yeah, Jody is great to work with. I like his lots of info, lack of pressure style. Let me know when you pick it up and let's go ride! The weather is supposed to get nice again by the weekend.
