I would go with a Dunlop E3 250 or Metzler ME880 260 over the Vee Rubber tire from Thailand. 260 is the biggest you can go without problems on the stock rim.

im rolling brand new ME880 metzlers 260 rear and 160 front as of this last saturday....looks and works great so far.
at this point im gonna say that there isnt a big diff in looks between the 260 and those that go to a 300 other than the huge cost to do those larger tires "safely"
people already look at our rear tires and thier mouths drop open...run a 250 or 260 and just tell them its a 280 or 300 and i doubt they ll even question you....seriously
now putting that 160 up front is very noticably different and it feels really good so far...
all this is my opinion and no one elses
E3 250 in the back and a 160 in the front. The way is should have came from the factory. You will love it.

Hey Rubzerk how does the Vee Rubber hold in the wet? I find the stock Dunnie to be rubbish, have only had the metz 260 other than that (found it to be pretty darn good) any difference between vee rubber and the metz?

well, i got stuck in 2 rain storms & rode on plenty wet morning roads.
i have to say the VeeRubber rides like a dream, no problem with traction.

You might want to reconsider that. They are very hard to mount and might find a shop that damages your rims and denies it was them. Check with FutureR who has mounted one and will never mount another again.

The Metz will be one of the most expensive tires followed by the Avon....
If you are looking for best bang for the buck then the Dunlop 250 Elite 3 rear tires is the one to pick....Good traction, better wear life and actually is slightly wider than than the Metz 260 when mounted..
As for best pricing on tires it is usually Jake Wilson aka Rocky Mountain ATV based out of Payson Utah that has them instock and best pricing with great customer service.

I hate this dunlop i have on there now (stock)...no traction at all. And how much wider will it look? I found the dunlop for 149.99 http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/typeDetail.do?navTitle=Tires+and+Wheels&webCatId=8&navType=type&webTypeId=229&navTitle=Tires+and+Wheels&webCatId=8&navType=type&webTypeId=229&sizeId=5334&brandId=allBrands&priceRange=allPrices&sortBy=3
Looks like they dont sell a 260. Thanks for the tip.

Nothing against foreign parts but just beware that tires are the one thing between you and the road. I have never made a claim to buy everything USA made. Now I have no issues with USA made products and typically prefer to buy quality over price.
I would much rather go with German engineered vs. Thailand engineered tires. I work in the big distribution transformer business and I will tell you we don't buy critical (or non critical) components from Thailand. I would call tires critical components! There is a huge difference in buying chrome accessories, coffee cups, costume jewelry, lead painted toys, gas station sunglasses, etc... from China vs. buying quality made products for critical functions. JMHO
Now for the Harley comment, that wasn't verry nice. I guess because you sell a ton of China's crap in your store and have a Vee Rubber tire that makes you an honorary ambassador to China. I would be willing to bet you bought the Vee rubber for looks not performance.

Now in Vee Rubbers defense it is ISO-9001 certified and has the regulation of the DOT.

I want to go wider on the stock rims as well when the time comes for my first set of new tires. I'm just wondering how the handling of the 9 compares from the stock R240/F130 to R260/F160? I live in the mountains so curves and peg grinding are a daily ride. That's primarily why I ask.

I moved up to a 260 and stayed with a Metzler 880. When I need a front tire I'll move up to a 150 Metzler. I have to say I love the way the bike handles now.

Yes you are correct Ryan. I have had both back tires and the E3 250 is a tad wider than the 260 Metz ME880. The metz has a rounder profile than the E3 which has a flater center to the tire. I am able to ride to the edge (chicken strips) of the Metz and had a harder time getting to the edge of the E3.

Ahhhh, yes there is! The difference in looks and apperance between a 260 and a 300 are HUGE! A lot more wow factor with the 300. I didn't go that route because of the labor involved everytime you need to change the tire but my 280 looks a lot bigger than the 260 and is phat enough. :D

The upgrade to 160/260 Metz was the best mod I've done to date.
I love the twisties and this combo does not disappoint . Added bonus is your front end doesn't hunt the rain grooves on the freeway any more. Not to mention the bike looks truly bada$$ IMO.
I've read that other options are almost as good but cheaper. No one says another option has better performance if price is no object.
Everyone agrees that any option you choose is going to handle better than stock.
Search this subject. You'll see what I mean.

just to elaborate a bit more...all of us here on the board can spot the tire size difference almost immidiatly....BUT, when im at a bike gathering of mostly harley people, i know for a fact i can tell them its a 280 or whatever and they BELIEVE. a huge number of folks look at the tire and say "wow, how big is that ?" i would tell them its a 240 tire and they nod and keep examing the rest of the bike....i told one dude it was a 300 and he said "thats really cool dude".... so the point im making is its all relative as even the stocker is massivily impressive to the unknowing.
