I have a question. I just got my bike. Kinda new to Twins. I dont remember if this has been happening the whole time or not but after a ride and fill up yesterday when I went to start the bike, I noticed the oil lights were on. When the bike is running nothing then when I shut the bike down they come back on. Is this normal. Like I said I really cant remember if it has been like this since I bought it or not. Thanks for any info. I looked around for oil light posts but didnt see any.

Sorry, i may have missunderstood your post,, if the ignition is on its normal with the engine off, if the engine is running its not.. hope i didnt confuse you.

Yeah I was thinking it wasnt normal. Here is everything that happened.

I went for a 100 mile ride into the mountains. About 10000' or so. Got up no problems. Rode back. When I got by the house stopped for gas. When I went to turn the bike back on nothing. Thought battery was dead. Pulled seat. Connections loose so I tightened them. Power comes on no probs. Start the bike and it is super sluggish and wants to die. when I rev it a little it drops to low idle and stalled at first. Then after waiting about five minutes I started again. This time low idle but it doesnt stall so I check the oil. I have oil in the middle of the hash marks so I figure I am ok. I ride it home. when I get home it is running fine. The only thing is now when I turn the key on the two oil lights come on. When I start it they go out. The bike idles fine and sounds normal now.

Maybe it is low oil. hmmm...

Oil lights sounds ok as long as they go out when you crank her up.. what mods do you have, could be the altitude.

All stock so far with baffles drilled and four holes in the end of each pipe. Picked up the bike 2 weeks ago with 5000 on it. It is a 2006. I come from a gixxer background but absolutely love this bike.

Yes, normal When you turn on the key the lights cycle on to show they are working. Once bike is running, they should go off. If it comes on while riding, you need to get her checked.
As far as oil, this bike is very finicky, to check you must do the 15-3 check or the over night on side stand method. If you don't check that way, you could add oil when already full & wind up with the dreaded oil puke:(

There is only one oil light. If the motor is stopped (no oil pressure) that light will be lit. If the motor is running (oil pressure), the light will be off. It works just like every other idiot light on every other vehicle ever produced that has one. If the light is on with the motor running SHUT IT OFF! You have no oil pressure.

Oil pressure, light off. No oil pressure, light on.
