for thoes you us that purchased the Arnott air ride kit & the chrome switch.

Its a pain in the ass mounting the switch, so here goes my idea.

remove screw #9 and find one that is 1/2" longer.
now find 2 nuts to fit that screw.
take the 2 nuts and drill out the threads. these will now become spacers.
these will be flush with the master cylinder clamp.
then reassemble as shown in pic below.

not the best instructions but it works.

I put mine there but wanted it flush not with a bolt head sticking out so I took the time (a lot) to modify the mounting bracket hole to fit just right in the stock bolt location.....I think it looks pretty clean this way. :doorag:

Did you grind it down with a dremel, if so, how did it affect the chrome finish?

Yes, took us about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes. Taped off the chrome at the bottom of the switch housing and started at the very bottom where the bolt goes through. Had to thin it out considerably but there is more then enough metal to hold it since the bolt head covers it all the way around. The tricky part was up at the top, making sure not to tap the dremel into the chrome. When you are all done, take some clear nail polish and just coat where ever you ground and it will prevent the chrome from peeling away.

Any imperfections are 100% hidden and it looks awesome. I have the same switch on the way and we will do it again for Bikergranny's bike. Her air ride just shipped out today. If you need, I will be more then happy to try and take some pics as we go so you can see how much we ground. Probably won't be for a couple weeks until I do it though.

Other way is to leave the switch alone and work on the original
bracket that holds the mirror and brake fluid reservoir and widen
the hole in aluminium bracket , so you don't mess with the
chrome of the switch , and the original bracket can't rust , it's aluminium.

Looks good and nice idea. However, we couldn't do that on Giddy's as his is chrome. Eventually I will be doing chrome across Mary's bars as well so I can't mess that piece up as I will be doing an exchange with Jerry.

It's a good thing Big Papa told me your stuff was chromed ,
you can imagine the disappointment if I was to tackle this
project , and start to buff my switch housings and brackets only to go mad
asking myself " what am I doing wrong " >:( they look like crap
why don't they shine like Giddy's do ??

This may be a stupid question, but here goes. Are there any air lines that go to the switch or is it just electrical wires?

It's just electrical wires.......no air lines

Thanks Giddyup, I was just wondering because I have an idea for that switch other than for air ride.

I put mine on the other side so I can adjust it on the fly. Kinda hard to keep the throttle cranked and reach your thumb over at the same time....
