Bike going in the shop again today. Stealer is not very helpful. Acts like this has never been heard of before and is not supporting the $700.00 additional warrenty.Supposed to have rental coverage and wants us to pay for a Harley rental upfront $150. day w/ $1000.00 deposit. Starting to get worried... anybody else having this problem???

During my first year of C109 ownership my bike was in the dealer three times for a leaking differential.

If you switched to synthetic lube, no worries. Just leave the standard lube in after repair and you will be fine. If you are leaking the standard lube, I don't know what to tell you.

Is it leaking from the drain plug in the dif?

no,it's leaking from the seal inside the diff. It is currently in the shop for a second time.1st time they replaced the seal...still leaks...now maybe the whole chunk.:(
I'm getting around on a 79 Honda CBX (glad it did'nt go on Craigs List) Stealer will call on Tuesday;I'll let you know what they say.

Inside seal is not problem, actually leaks from outside seal thru axis to inside of diff and looks like the inner(big) seal is problem - mine has exactly the same.
The story: First was changed seal from inside, but it not helps. Finally both seal was changed to be sure for 100% - no leaks more then 4000km

Have your dealer check the surface that runs against the main seal, they will probrably find a flaw, damage, or scoring that is inturn damaging the seal lips and resulting in diff fluid leakage, as for synthetic or petrolium diff fluid, that has not one thing do do with the leak itself. Had many diffs apart over the years and almost every time the seal is leaking, it a result of something or somebody damaging the seal.....

Hope this helps

Are you sure it's not just the xtra grease that might sling off for the first 1000k or so then my bike had it for that long then no more i do my own oil and dif change after the first 1000k nothing.

dealer says it was residual oil...mmmmmm...I knew they would say that, I'm not convinced.however it's not leaking right now, keeping my eye on it and going full synthetic. Thanks for the replies,I'll keep yall updated.Hopefully the next thing will be those Hard Corbin Bags :) They look great! Waiting for the rain to stop.

The final drive on the M109R is very similar to the C90. The leaking seal thing is a known issue (per a Zuk mechanic I talked to). Seal costs about $10. They blamed the seal failure on my C90T due to oil expansion when it got hot from friction. Apparently the diff vent does not vent much so it blew the seal.

At first they tried to say I overfilled it. I asked them to demonstrate how their mechanic (which did the service) could overfill the diff without laying the bike on it's side. That shut them up...

Some dealers will try to BS you just so they can get cash rather than file a warranty claim...
