Anyone have tires mounted in Portland metro area? Prices of mounting/balance?
I picked up a nail this weekend and need to replace the rear - putting on a new Dunnie Elite 3 250/40/18

I had Pro Caliber do my Dunlop 250 E3 and I think they charged me 20 or 22. If you have not bought the tire yet, check with them. Usually you can not beat there price. I think I paid $220 for mine and I could not find it cheaper on line.
The shi**y thing about them is you either have to wait - first come first serve or drop the tire off.
Hope that helps,
John

They were the best price - $137 + $25 mount/balance.
Back ordered though.
Thanks for the heads up.

Yeah. I ordered as soon as he said the price. I looked on-line and around town and was getting $230 at Beaverton Honda to $153 on-line at Motorcyclecycletires. He said $150 first then found that the distributor was back ordered he checked he other distributor and said "I think it a little less with them - yeah $137 and $25 to mount and balance - do you want to order one?" Ah - yeah. I will be worth the wait.
I put a plug in the current tire. Any one have issues with plugs? I know they are not for long-term use. It has held the air at 42psi since I put it in.
I'll give you a follow up after just in case I show up and they try and screw me with some "we quoted you the wrong price" thing. So far, so good.

You should be good to go. I just looked and I paid 160 for my tire plus mounting / balancing.
I have a service contract with them and aside from overfilling my oil they have been alright. Doberman has had some issues with them working on his quads. As with any shop, keep an I on them.
On the plug thing - Opinions vary, unless its in the middle I won't do it. I picked up a nail right in the middle of my stock rear with plenty of tread left and plugged it. Did not feel comfortable enough to go on a 700 mile trip so I put Dobermans used stock tire on for the trip.

The plug is right in the middle of the tire. Mine is close to needing to be changed - I probably could have lasted until spring but I'll just get it out of the way now. I rode last Sun to Vancouver to see my sister and it was alright. I checked air when I got home and still right on. I just can't get it out of my head while I'm riding - don't want a mess.
Thanks for the tip on the tire.

Pro caliber is good for tires. I had a guy who works there tell me that corporately they decided tires was the one thing they would be rock-bottom on in the hopes of getting business and making higher points on other parts. I purchased my tires from them and had them install. They treated me fair.

Cycle Gear on Stark right off of I-205 will match any advertised price. I bought a Metzeler 260 earlier this year; was like $260 mounted/balanced and that's including the replacement warranty thing I bought with it. All you got to do is get online and find the cheapest price you can find on the tire you want. Print it out and bring it in to those guys and they'll hook you up!
